Equipment & Program | I will appreciate all ideas how to improve the service or the hardware (Forum) On the pictures you see the arrangement of my server hardware and the webcam tied to the window. I shielded the webcam against disturbing light influence with a paper shield. |   | Beneath you can see my windsensor which is mounted on the chimney for being unaffected by the sorrounging trees. Lets see how he acts on the next lightning impact  - therefore i tied it to the lightning rod. To the left you can see the temperature and humidity sensor mounted to the wall right under the roof.
In the last picture you can see a screencapture of my datacollection program which was written in Visual Basic 6 and runs as a system service.
For the webcam i use the Active Web-Cam Software - a real fantastic program!, which aquires a picture every few seconds and updates the server image. My program creates a backup copy for the history every 10 minutes so a 40 minute history is available. |    | | Hard & Software | Sensoren:
The sensors are all distributed by Firma ELV - out of their collection of radio weather sensors.
The pictures are taken by a Logitech QuickCam Zoom. Server:
A intel mobile processor with 2,2 Ghz and 1GB of ram - enougth ammount of harddisk and a cable internet connection.
The server serves as webserver, for handling the Oracle database and for collecting and transforming the measurements and statistic graphics.
Operatingsystem: Windows 2000 Server A Linksys WRT-54GS connects my whole equipment to the internet. As the part has a modified Firmeware it is suited perfectly for holding off uninvited guests from the web. Software:
Besides the software for the webcam most work is done by my datacollection program.
The program collects the data from the serial interface of the radio receiver and writes it to my oracle database. Additionaly it recreates the statistics and the webcam history.
Datacollection meens every 75 seconds a record is added to the database which holds now (10.2006) about 1,5 Mio. records.
The statistic graphs are created with excel automation. |
